Volunteers are an important and integral part of our treatment program at Five Acres. Anyone can apply to become a volunteer. Here are just some of the volunteer opportunities.
Work directly with the child care staff in one of our residential cottages to develop recreational and educational activities. Commitment: 2 hours per week on weekends or evenings. Special age requirement: 21 years or older
Develop a special one-on-one relationship with a boy or girl in our Residential Treatment or Group Home program through regular visits. Commitment: 2 hours per week, including weekends. Special age requirement: 21 years or older, (must have a valid California Driver’s License)
Work directly in the classroom assisting teachers in our on-campus Therapeutic School. Hours: Mon - Fri, 8:00 am - 2:00 pm Commitment: 4 hours per week - Special age requirement: 16 years or older
After School Literacy Program
Participate in our Therapeutic School’s reading program by reading to or with one child.
Hours: Mon & Tues (Sept - June) 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Commitment: 2 hours per week
After School Tutors
Assist a student develop a better understanding of in-class and homework assignments.
Hours: Weekends or evenings
Commitment: 1-2 hours per week
Childcare - Foster Care Program
Work directly with the staff to provide childcare to children in foster care while their foster and adoptive parents are in training. Commitment: 2 hours per month on the frst Monday of each month, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Five Acres Children’s Guild
Raise public awareness of Five Acres and provide birthday parties, monthly activities and events throughout the year. Commitment: 4 hours per month. Annual dues required: $100 ($50 for additional family members) Read More
Auxiliary of Five Acres
Impact the families of Five Acres through various volunteer projects and fundraising efforts. Commitment: 10 hours per year. Requested donation: $150 Read More
Special Event Volunteer
Help during special events, such as the annual gala, golf tournament or holiday open house.Special age requirement: 16 years or older
General Volunteer Opportunities
Help office staff with clerical tasks, inventory, maintaining holiday donations, and other special projects.
All prospective volunteers working directly with children must be at least 18 years or older and submit a completed application packet. Selected candidates will be interviewed and must clear through Livescan fingerprinting and provide a current TB test before commencing service.
