William's Story

Eleven-year-old William was discharged from Five Acres’ Residential Treatment Center to his grandmother’s home where he and his family receive services through our After Care Program. William has a history of engaging in power struggles with adults and reportedly attempts to manipulate his grandmother when he wants something. Through therapy William and his grandmother are beginning to learn how to communicate effectively. The grandmother consistently participates in family therapy sessions to help her better meet William’s needs and is interested in finding ways to be a better parent to him.

William’s mother was released from prison shortly after he left Five Acres’ Residential Treatment Center. She is now actively involved in William’s life and participates in weekly family therapy sessions.  She just celebrated her one year of sobriety, is currently employed, attends weekly church services with William and provides the grandmother with emotional and financial support.  William plays in a soccer league and recently went on a four-day overnight camp with the church youth group.
