This program prevents emotional and family trauma by delivering counseling services to children and families in their own homes in English, Spanish and American Sign Language to keep families intact and improve children's school performance.

Five Acres’ home-based services program was established in 1985 to serve families at risk for child abuse. The program aims to protect children and prevent out-of-home placement by alleviating crisis situations, strengthening family compentencies and faciliating their ability to utilize helping resources in their own community.  Services are provided in English, Spanish and American Sign Language. Such improvements in family functioning have been shown to reduce risk factors for child abuse and neglect. Referrals to the program are made by local hospitals, DCFS, schools, day care centers, Head Start programs, churches and self-referrals.
