Nash Scholarship Fund Recipients in 2006


ImageEric graduated from CSULA with his Bachelors of Science in the fall of 2005.  Eric completed a five-year program in electrical engineering in six years. He is the first Equal Opportunity Program admission to CSULA to complete an engineering degree. He interned for Boeing and Southern California Edison his senior year.Just recently Edison has offered Eric a full-time position as an entry-level engineer. Eric is now paying for his own utilities, transportation and food. He has been utilizing Nash Scholarship funds to assist in paying for his rent this summer until he receives his first California Edison paycheck in October.


Regina graduated in 2002 from Blair High School and has been living in the San Fernando Valley for the past year.  She has taken classes at Los Angeles City College and Pierce College and currently is enrolled full time at Moorpark Community College.  She continues to work toward her associate of science and veterinarian technician certificate and plans to graduate in spring 2007.  She plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree at Cal Poly Pomona or UC Davis.  Regina is currently working as a student worker and hopes to have a second job by the end of this year. Regina now pays for her own rent and transportation but still needs assistance with her monthly groceries and her book fees.


Dawn graduated from Biola University in 2003 with a degree in Inter-Multi Cultural Studies. ImageShe has been working at The Sycamores as a residential counselor for the past two and a half years.  Dawn was recently accepted into a masters program in Marital and Family Therapy in Modality of Art Therapy at Loyola Marymount University this fall.  Dawn is now paying for her own rent, utilities, transportation and food but has been utilizing Nash Scholarship funds to assist in paying for her medical expenses.


Nathan graduated from Marshall High School in 2005.
Nathan in cap and gownHe is attending Pasadena City College for his second year and is working toward a degree in criminal justice.  His long-term goal is to transfer to Cal State University Los Angeles,  finish his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and then join the police force. He is currently working at Rubio’s in Pasadena part time. Nathan now pays for his own book fees but still needs assistance to pay his monthly rent, utilities, groceries and transportation.


Pedro graduated from Pasadena High School this June. He is continuing to live with his foster parent in Pasadena, whom he now calls mom, and is attending Pasadena City College. He is currently working with the Rose Program. This is Pedro’s first year as an emancipated youth and will need financial assistance for rent, books and transportation.


James graduated from Marshall High School this June. He is planning on living in Pasadena and attending Pasadena City College. Although his dream is to become a rock star, he currently works as a Teen Trainer and recently got a second part-time job working as a dog groomer. This is James’ first year as an emancipated youth, and he will need financial assistance for rent, books, utilities, groceries and transportation.


Alfonso graduated from Victory High School this June. He is attending Pasadena City College with a major in psychology. He would like to complete his general education and then transfer to a four-year university. He currently works full-time at Target in Pasadena and works as an independent living program instructor at Pasadena City College. This is Alfonso’s first year as an emancipated youth and he will need financial assistance for his rent, books, utilities, groceries and transportation expenses.


Ameshia photoAmeshia graduated from Pasadena High School this June. She currently lives in San Dimas and attends Citrus College where she is working toward a degree in law and would like to go to transfer to law school in a year. She works at the Souplantation and has been saving money for a car. This is Ameshia’s first year as an emancipated youth and will need financial assistance for rent, books, utilities, groceries and transportation.


Nash Scholarship Fund Candidates for 2007


Michael currently is enrolled at Marshall High school and plans to
Smiling Michael indoors graduate in June of 2007. He works three part-time jobs at Hot Topic, EB Toys and as a Teen Trainer for Five Acres. Michael takes classical guitar lessons. He plans to apply to Cal State University Northridge and Chaffee College.  He would like to major in sign language and become an interpreter.  Michael will need financial assistance for rent, books, utilities, groceries and transportation.


Cynthia plans to graduate in June of 2007. She currently maintains a 3.2 grade-point average, works at the Souplantation and plays softball. She plans to apply to Cal State University Northridge, Cal State University Fresno and San Diego State and would ultimately like to transfer to a University of California campus. Cynthia will need financial assistance for rent, books, utilities, groceries and transportation.


Kytana currently is enrolled at Pasadena High school and plans to graduate in June of 2007. She maintains a 3.33 grade-point average and loves participating in soccer and volleyball. Kytana will need financial assistance for rent, books, utilities, groceries and transportation.


Zabrina is currently enrolled at Muir High School. She is active in her community and recently participated in a Black History Parade in Altadena. Zabrina will need financial assistance for rent, books, utilities, groceries and transportation.
